Studying overseas has become a fashion and trend these days. To prove English Proficiency, one has to undergo several exams. PTE is one of them. The Pearson Test of English Academic is an English language test designed to assess the readiness of non-native English speakers to participate in a university-level English language instruction program. Pearson created PTE Academic in response to demand from institutions, government and other organizations for a more accurate way of testing non-native English language students who enter the English-speaking academia world. The Pearson Test of English (PTE) is a computer-based test which assesses the English language skills of non-native speakers intending to apply for university courses in English-speaking countries.

Plan ahead:
One can never get enough practice for the PTE exam. However, you need to make a strategic study plan and stick to it. A perfect study plan is a perfect combination of preparation method, practice time, and self-analysis.
- Devote at least 2 hours a day to preparing for them.
- Practice with the repeated questions. (Get our PTE-A Exam Memories File)
- Spend time to re-collect and summarize everything you learnt on the previous day.
- Assess yourself with scored practice tests.
- Make a note of all the important points that can help you recollect the ideas to answer these questions.
- Practice flow and Avoid speaking fast:
It means that when you try to converse in the English language and make a mistake, you should not interrupt your flow and keep speaking.Speed does not indicate fluency and will not contribute to getting points for it. If you try to speak too fast then it indicates anxiety and stress. It affects your fluency and legibility because of which you will lose points on the exam. You should speak at a normal pace that is not too fast and not too slow.
- Be acquainted with computer based test:
As it is computer based, time bound exam, having a better typing speed will help. I am a software developer and can touch type, this was one of the reason I could finish exam in two hours. So in case you have slow typing speed try to improve it a bit.
- Take sample exam on web:
ptepractice.com sample paper will cost you 35$ ( ~2300 INR ) and it will be exact replication of original test. You will get scores for it and will know what sections to improve (Eg. I had low score in written discourse and so read more on how to structure a good essay). Much better than giving exam twice.
- Practice and be familiar with each question type in all sections:
You can get information on what to expect in each question type under each section on youtube or on ptepractice.com (Paid). You can also learn what are the best ways to solve each question type. This is a must for good score. E.g. reorder paragraph can be solved better using instructions given in youtube video and they are (I heard) worth 20 points each.
- Avoid frequent uses of few words when you speak:
This is a very common mistake made by the test-takers. They tend to use the word “about”, ‘You Know’ , “I mean” “yeah” too many times in their response. It gets accounted for basic grammar mistake and they lose points for it. So you should try to avoid using it many times while speaking.
- Time management:
Your sections are timed. You will have to work on a clock. So you should not spend too much time on every question because if you get stuck you will not be able to finish the other questions in the given time.
Answering 73-80 questions in a 3-hour exam is not easy. It would be best if you practised enough to read the questions, understand them, and write them. Make scanning and skimming your strength But leaving no time for review is the most common mistake. Avoid it
- Avoid the use of informal language:
While speaking to your friends or family, we tend to use informal language. But while speaking responses in the PTE exam, you should avoid the use of informal language. If you tend to use it then you will lose points for it.
- Read all test instructions carefully:
It can be a huge mistake not to read the instructions. Be sure you know what you are required to do before you begin. Is there a single correct answer? Or multiple answers? Does the essay prompt contain 2 questions or only one? If there are 2 questions and you only answer one, your response is incomplete, which will affect your score.
- Get enough sleep:
Make sure you get enough sleep the night before the test. Once the test starts you will not have much time to relax or regain lost focus.
- Stay calm:
It is obvious that every candidate gets nervous a day before an exam. Meditation is a piece of precious advice that I would like to suggest to you guys for your PTE Preparation. It will soothe your heart and mind. Undoubtedly, it will enhance your performance, too. So, get set and go for it.
- Be confident:
Don’t be overconfident. Oscar Wilde rightly acclaims it, “Confidence is good, but overconfidence sinks the ship.” Don’t develop a lax attitude as it doesn’t lead you anywhere. Be confident and attentive for your PTE Exams
