Students planning to study in Australia need to apply for student visa under subclass 500. The below listed categories fall under Subclass 500:
Students planning to travel to Australia for a short-term English language course can choose this program. English Language Intensive Course for Overseas students (ELICO) is an English language course which comprises of I, II, III, IV stage certification and length of the course may vary.
Vocational Education and Training Sector is for students who wish to enroll in a Vocational Education and Training course (VET) offered by Australian Technical and Further Education (TAFE) or some private institutes. Following courses can be enrolled under this sector:
- Certificate I, II, III and IV (except ELICOS)
- VET Diploma
- VET Advanced Diploma
- Vocational Graduate Certificate
- Vocational Graduate Diploma
Under Higher Education sector, students can enroll for a registered full-time higher education course at a University/College or institute. Following courses are covered under this sector:
- Courses at an Undergraduate level at a University (Bachelors/Associate Degree)
- Courses of postgraduate level at a University (Master’s degree such as MBA, MS, etc.)
- Post Graduate courses that offer a higher education diploma or advanced diploma like PGDBM, etc.
Students who wish to enroll for Master’s degree by research or a Doctoral degree can apply under this sector.
Student Visa Australia Requirements
To be eligible for a student visa in Australia, the students must satisfy some of the parameters which are listed below:
Students who wish to enroll for a full time course are eligible to apply for a student Visa in Australia. Part-time and distance learning coursed do not qualify.
The student must prove that he/she is a Genuine Temporary Entrant, who intends to travel to Australia for studies and return to their home country at the end of the course. The Visa application are assessed on applicant’s circumstances in home country including economic circumstances, opportunities for the student in Australia, value of the chose course to the student’s future and the student’s immigration history.
The student must furnish a Certificate of Health from certified Doctors. And also have a Health Insurance or an Overseas Student Health Cove (OSHC) for the duration of your Visa.
A certificate to prove that you have a good character and do not have any Criminal records.
Australia student visa document checklist
The Department of Home affairs are very particular about the documents you furnish for the student visa. Any missing documents or documents furnished in local language would result in delay or possible visa rejection. It is advisable to scan all your documents and have it ready before you submit your application. The lists of documents are given below:
- Aged Dependent Relative Visa (Subclass 114)
- Non-immigrant visa application
- Application fee payment receipt
- Confirmation of Enrolment form (COE)
- With this visa you can stay in Australia as a Permanent resident, sponsor eligible relatives to come to Australia and apply for Australian Citizenship if eligible. To apply for this Visa you must be outside Australia, have an eligible child who is a settled Australian Citizen or a Permanent Resident and meet all applicable visa conditions and follow Australian Law.
- Overseas health insurance certificate (OSHC)
- Educational Transcripts, Diploma, degree certificates
- English Language test report
- Statement of proof showing sufficient funds to support your education
- Proof of Grant (If sponsored by employer or via bank loan.)
Application process of student visa for Australia
It is advisable to start the application process of student visa before 124 days of the commencement of your course in Australia. Below are the steps for Australia student visa application:
- Create a profile in ImmiAccount
- Applicants should fill the visa application form corresponding to the visa subclass under which they are eligible to apply for. (Education agents and Registered Migration Agents (RMAs) who are registered to access the student online lodgment facility can lodge student eVisa applications on the behalf of the student.)
- List Item
- You can track your application status by logging into your ImmiAccount which can also be used to upload documents and edit the details.
- You will be assigned with a TRN (Transaction Reference Number) which can be used to track the progress of your application.
Dependent Visa
Any family member accompanying you to Australia can avail a Dependent Visa under subclass 500. The Dependent Visa is valid for the same duration as the Student Visa (Primary Applicant). You must declare all family memberson your visa application at the time of submission
Note: Applicable only for Master’s degree application. The family member gets a Dependent Visa and a valid work permit for the same duration as the primary applicant.
