The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) is a general English language proficiency test. CELPIP General is suitable for people who need proof of English-language skills when applying for permanent resident status in Canada under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Start-up Visa Program, and various Provincial Nominee Programs, or for employment. The test is administered by Paragon Testing Enterprises , a subsidiary of the University of British Columbia (UBC). The test clearly, accurately, and precisely assesses a test taker’s English abilities in a variety of everyday situations, such as communicating with co-workers and superiors in the workplace, interacting with friends, understanding newscasts, and interpreting and responding to written materials.
Types of CELPIP:
1. CELPIP GENERAL :
The CELPIP general test evaluates 4 skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Each section will require you to first look at a prompt or case and then submit your answer. The CELPIP General test can be taken at any authorized centre around the globe.

2. CELPIP GENERAL LS:
The CELPIP General LS test evaluates 2 skills: Listening and Speaking. Both sections are the same as in the CELPIP General test. The CELPIP General LS test is only available at official test centres in Canada for citizenship applications.

CELPIP : Policies :
- You must arrive 45 MINUTESprior to your test. Latecomers will be denied entrance to the test and will NOT be eligible for a refund or transfer.
- Check-in for your test closes 15 minutesbefore the scheduled start time. If you arrive after this time, you will be denied entrance to the CELPIP Test and will not be eligible for a refund or transfer.
Required Documents for the Test:
A test taker needs to bring the original valid photo identification.
The following photo identifications are accepted:
- Passport booklet
- United States Passport Card
- Refugee protection claimant document*
- Travel document**
- Emirates ID* (in UAE only)
*Expired refugee protection claimant documents must be pre-approved by CELPIP every time you register for a test. For approval, please send a scan or picture of your expired Refugee protection claimant document by email to info@celpip.ca.
A Travel Document refers to the following documents specifically:
Refugee Travel Document OR Certificate of Identity
When do I get my CELPIP test results?
In 4 to 5 calendar days. The test results become available online and will be accessible for 2 years after their release.
You can order a hard copy of your test results to be sent to you by mail for an additional charge based on your location.
How long are CELPIP results valid?
Two years after the release of the results. Some employers may have more flexible policies, but according to the Canadian government, no test results older than 2 years is valid for PR or Citizenship applications.
